Schedule set for Towrang Bridge Upgrade

Significant progress has been made on the timeline for the Towrang Bridge Upgrade, with a tender for detailed design and construction of the new bridge currently open.
$2 million has been received through the Federal Government Bridges Renewal Program, with Council also contributing $2 million towards replacement of the structure.
The new proposed bridge will be at a level 4.5m higher than the existing bridge, and will provide two lanes at a total width of 9m. Once complete, the estimated flood immunity for the new bridge will be 1 in 30 years.
“The new bridge will be far more flood resistant, allowing residents of this growing community an improved access during floods. It will also be upgraded to a two lane structure, which will be far safer for traffic, and offer an improved rural stock route” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Bridges Renewal Program had proved to be a very successful and important partnership between the Federal Government and Council to improve road safety and freight productivity in the Goulburn region.
“Towrang Bridge needed an upgrade, so it is great timing for our community to see this type of investment that will support jobs as our local economy recovers from the pandemic,” Mr Taylor said.
Tenders for design and construction of the new bridge will close on Tuesday 18th May. Subject to outcomes from the tender evaluation, Council is aiming to have a contractor on the ground in the final quarter of 2021, with completion expected by June 2022.
