Repair works on the indoor pool roof at the Goulburn Aquatic Centre are set to begin this week, with the goal of having these works completed and the indoor pool opened in early January.

Two timber roof beams spanning the indoor pool failed in late September following heavy snowfall. This prompted immediate closure of the pool with temporary support struts put in place.

Council has been working with two companies to look at proposed solutions, and the lowest quote for repair works is $157,420. A claim for this to be covered will be lodged to Council’s insurance company.

Mayor Bob Kirk said he is pleased that a solution has been reached to get the pool reopened in a timely fashion.

“It has taken some time to come to a resolution as it will be a complicated project in which we will need to disconnect lighting and remove air-conditioning ducts to install the trusses, and then reinstate everything.

“But I’m pleased that we will be able to get the indoor pool open in just a few weeks now. It will be great to have the whole Aquatic Centre available for use for the rest of summer, as this is obviously our busiest time.”

At the 1st October 2019 Council Meeting, the General Manager was authorised to take appropriate steps for remedial works at the indoor pool.

ARW Multigroup have been engaged to carry out the repair works, and subject to no unforeseen circumstances being encountered, the indoor pool is expected to be operational by the start of January 2020.
