Goulburn Mulwaree Council are currently undertaking a 4.2 kilometre pavement upgrade of Carrick Road, after receiving funding for a successful application to the Fixing Local Roads Grant program.

$2.3 million has been allocated to seal a significant section of Carrick Road, however work was held up this week due to the extremely disappointing actions of someone dumping asbestos. Council is now offering a $1000 reward for any information leading to the apprehension of the culprit.

On Monday 7th June, contractors working on the project identified asbestos fragments that had been illegally dumped on the previously disturbed drains and batters, upon further inspection more was found where works were due to re-commence.

As a result contractors were stood down while fragments were removed by accredited staff. Council have had to engage an asbestos consultant to review and release the site back to Council to re commence works, however whilst undertaking the review on site fresh asbestos has been identified had had been dumped within the last 12 hour period.

Council is asking residents and road users to remain vigilant in this area as the illegal actions of this person or persons is adding substantial cost/time to this important project as well as putting staff and contractor safety at risk. If you notice suspicious activity in the area please notify the police as soon as possible. Council will be installing CCTV as a result of these actions.
