The first renovation of the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery since 1991 has been completed, reinvigorating the spaces for exhibitions, workshops and education.
The project culminated with a grand opening for the new exhibition, ‘Of the Sun’, which has been curated by Director Gina Mobayed, and features breathtaking paintings created by seven outstanding Australian leading artists.
“Completion of our renovations is a proud moment for our team, and marks the end of a major series of reinvigoration projects since my arrival including a new award winning visual identity, touring initiative, significant collection growth and major exhibitions such as ‘Goulburn Bustle’ and our current exhibition ‘Of the Sun,’“ said Gina Mobayed.
“The Gallery now hosts two exhibition spaces, a dedicated education studio, a Window Gallery created to present the permanent collection for the first time ever, and a new open workshop where visitors can read and relax. The entire footprint is now open to the public to learn, see and consider contemporary art.”
Mayor Bob Kirk encouraged community members who haven’t visited the Gallery to take the opportunity to do so over the summer break.
“The new space is amazing, and presents a number of different experiences to visitors including spaces to relax and reflect. The current exhibition will run through until January 25th, and is absolutely worth seeing – take the chance over to summer to drop into your local Art Gallery which will be open from the 2nd January.”
January programs sees the Gallery become a quiet space each Monday, with guided meditation from 1pm-2pm while this Friday 13th December Director Gina Mobayed will offer a free tour at 1:30pm.
