Media Statement – Vandalism to Community Assets

In recent months Council has experienced an increase in vandalism to community assets.

“The most recent damage to the Streets as Shared Spaces equipment at the top of Belmore Park and along Auburn Street is more than $5,000, and as a result of the continual antisocial and unacceptable behaviour towards the equipment cleaning costs have exceeded several thousand dollars.” Said Mayor Peter Walker

“Vandalism of any kind is unacceptable and costly to Council’s ratepayers; we have had enough as a Council. This has been highlighted as being in Belmore Park, however Council has noticed an increase in vandalism to other facilities around the region including various sections of the Walking Track, Sporting Fields, and other parks throughout the region. All of this is becoming extremely costly to the community.

Council provides facilities for all of the community, and it does not need a small section of people trashing what we are providing for the region as a whole.” Mr Walker continued.
