Free e-waste weekend approaching
During the last 6 months we have all found different ways to use our time as our lives have been changed, and we have been affected by lockdowns, due to COVID-19. One task I know many in the community have undertaken is cleaning out the shed or spare room, which is why I’m pleased to this week confirm our free e-waste disposal weekend will occur on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September after being postponed earlier this year.
During this weekend Council will accept fridges/freezers/air-conditioners, mattresses, clean steel and e-waste at Waste Management Centres in Goulburn, Marulan and Tarago. Bulky household general waste such as furniture or garden waste will be accepted at the November disposal weekend later this year.
This weekend is always a busy, successful one, and a great opportunity to clean out the shed or the spare room. E-waste accepted includes televisions, computers, printers, fax machines and computer accessories, while mattresses are always a popular item to dispose of.
Each household is entitled to dispose of two fridges/freezers, two mattresses, one air-conditioner, 1m cubed of e-waste and /or up to 2m cubed of clean steel items free of charge. Any other waste will be charged as per normal fees and charges.
The weekend is a self-haul to waste centre event, and those seeking assistance to get items to the tip are encouraged to contact local waste disposal companies and handyman services.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, Council staff will not be able to assist customers in unloading their items as has occurred in previous years. Residents must ensure they are able to unload vehicles themselves, for example by ensuring more than one person attends for unloading.
Outdoor pool to open September 15th
While demolition is underway on the indoor pool hall at the Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre, staff are busily working to prepare the outdoor pool for the summer season.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council will open the outdoor pool slightly earlier than usual this year on September 15th, to accommodate swimmers who are eagerly awaiting the chance to get back in the water.
It is an exciting time at our Aquatic Centre with fencing up and work well underway on the demolition portion of the project. It was important to Council that we still offered an opportunity to swimmers as soon as possible, and I am sure our swim squads and learn to swim programs will be quickly filled up as well.
Staff have taken the opportunity during the winter closure to undertake some work on the outdoor pool including painting of the pool deck, and a significant lighting upgrade which is due to be completed by the end of August.
Entrance to the Aquatic Centre will now be done through the northern side of the Deccan Street car park, adjacent to the outdoor pool. Temporary office facilities have been put in place, and the outdoor change rooms and showers are still able to be utilised.
