Army exercises underway

Army exercises have begun in Goulburn this week, being undertaken by Royal Military College as part of their development of trainees in order for them to work within complex environments.

The city of Goulbum will provide the backdrop and enable us to work within an urban environment that will provide this complexity. Letters from Royal Military College have been sent to every home in Goulburn, and a dedicated hotline number has been established. If you have concerns or questions you should call 0409 734 526, not Council or the Police.

You can be assured however, that all scenarios and exercises will be conducted in a safe manner. You will see cadets patrolling streets and undertaking exercises at different times. They will be carrying weapons, but at no time during these exercises will live ammo be used.

Cadets will be involved in this year’s ANZAC Day commemorations, and towards the end of their program RMC hopes to host a community BBQ where young people and adults can learn more about the Army, which will be of great benefit to our community.

Avenues of Remembrance

Four years ago Council endorsed a nine entry roads to Goulburn for tree planting and clean-up works in an effort to expand upon the beautification works that we have undertaken throughout the City. Alongside this, one of the key goals was to renew our Avenues of Remembrance.

Park Road in Eastgrove was the original Avenue of Remembrance established in 1919, and we planted new oak trees in 2017 on the original route, as a fitting way to begin the long-term program. This work has continued each year, with planting undertaken on key roads, with our focus on 2021 being on Sydney Road at the northern end of the City.

Each location commemorates a specific conflict or activity, honouring anyone from Goulburn Mulwaree who has served in theatres of war.

This week we have installed new signage at key locations on Crookwell Road, Taralga Road, Windellama Road, Middle Arm Road, Braidwood Road and Range Road. Signage will also be installed at the southern and northern entrances to Goulburn off the Hume Highway, and on the Gurrundah Road.

Take advantage of household recyclables weekend

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is encouraging residents to begin to prepare for the free bulky household recyclables disposal weekend, which has reverted to its usual date on the first weekend of May.

Waste Management Centres in Goulburn, Marulan and Tarago will be open from 7am to 4pm on both Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May to cater for the expected larger crowds.

Following a year in which we all took advantage of lockdowns to clean out the home, we encourage you to prepare now and plan your trip ahead of time. The household recyclables weekend is a great chance to dispose of those larger household appliances for recycling. Mattresses have traditionally been an issue for our region with dumping, but there is no excuse for this when they will be accepted during this weekend at no cost.

We do expect some line-ups throughout the day as it’s always a popular weekend, but will have plenty of staff on hand to keep things moving smoothly.

Goulburn Mulwaree residents can dispose of up to two mattresses, 2 fridges/freezers, 1 air-conditioner, up to 1m3 of e-waste (computers, televisions, printers, fax machines and computer accessories only), and/or up to 2m3 of clean steel items (including electrical appliances with an electrical lead) per property, free of charge at Council's waste centres.

All loads must be transported to one of Council's waste centres, and only domestic items will be accepted. All waste/items outside of those listed above will be charged the appropriate fee for disposal.
