Rail Siding Contamination - Tarago
On Monday night I along with many Councillor Colleagues went along to attend the Transport NSW public meeting in Tarago where the Rail Siding Contamination was to be discussed.
Residents in Tarago are understandably upset with the lack of information they have had regarding this issue, considering Transport NSW and John Holland (who were undertaking the work) have been aware for a significant amount of time.
Further testing of locations and water supplies in Tarago is to be undertaken, and we continue to advocate for blood testing for residents who would like this to be undertaken.
Transport NSW were not able to answer all questions on the night, but I do think they received the message from our community that the lack of communication so far is unacceptable. This is positive in moving forward, as I’m sure they will take our concerns more seriously, and will be more open and transparent. Council will certainly be monitoring the situation closely and ensuring this is the case.
Events this weekend
We have a busy upcoming weekend in the region, with a number of major events taking place. The forecast is for mild weather with very light winds, so I’d encourage you to go along!
Our Living History
Our Living History is a four day event, held from Friday 13th March through until Monday 16th March. ‘Living History’ defines the proud and participatory relationship Goulburn locals have with their past and present history, living surrounded by places of historical significance.
The Celebrate Goulburn Group has put together a significant program of events across each day, which is available to view at www.ourlivinghistory.com.au
Bungonia Village Fair
Take the drive to Bungonia on Saturday morning to peruse the Bungonia Village Fair. Locally produced food and wine will be on sale, along with handmade arts and crafts. Horse drawn buggy rides will also be available, along with great activities for kids like scarecrow building!
Goulburn’s 157th Birthday
If you’d prefer to stay in town, join me on Saturday morning at 10am in Belmore Park for Goulburn’s 157th birthday celebrations. I always enjoy this small event, in which local high school students address the community about why they love our City and region. We will also have Happy Birthday sung by local primary school students, and the customary cutting of the cake. Come and enjoy a morning in Belmore Park!
