Goulburn Mulwaree Council is launching ‘FOGO February’ an awareness month aimed at improving all of our waste habits. Throughout the month Council will be coordinating competitions, information stalls and an awareness campaign.

FOGO stands for Food Organics Garden Organics, and includes all food and garden waste such as kitchen scraps and expired food, as well as lawn clippings, small branches and organic garden waste.

Mayor Bob Kirk is getting right behind the campaign, and especially encouraged parents to work together with children to educate and improve your families’ habits.

“It’s so important for us as a community to improve all of our waste habits, and throughout February we are specifically focusing on FOGO or green waste.”

“There is a cost to everything we throw away, whether it goes in general waste, recycling or organic waste. We also need to improve as a community in keeping contamination out of our bins – for FOGO waste this means glass, metal, plastics, treated timber and anything that is not organic.”

A colouring competition is being run throughout the month for children of all ages, with fantastic ‘waste’ inspired Lego packs as prizes for the winners which will be chosen by Mayor Bob Kirk. During February Council will also be undertaking a number of education initiatives, including information stalls in Goulburn Square and outside Belmore Park, and kids’ education days at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library on the 18th and 20th February.

Social media posts will also be uploaded each week providing detailed and information and answering frequently asked questions we receive from the community about caddy liners and what to do if your FOGO bin has been tagged and rejected.
