Wonderful events

It’s been a busy week of events already, but all have been enjoyable and are one of the better aspects of my job as Mayor.

On Tuesday morning we officially welcomed thirty residents as new Australian Citizens at a ceremony in the Council Chambers. These new residents come from a range of countries, including India, the Netherlands, Philippines, Brazil, China, Pakistan, Iraq and South Africa. I wish you all the best for your future as Australian Citizens!

On Wednesday afternoon I had the honour of hosting a Mayoral Reception for our School Captains and Vice-Captains to recognise the contribution they’ve made to their schools and our community. It is always nice to get together with the students and principals of these schools, and it is pleasing to see so many bright young leaders developing in our community.

Today I will welcome a small delegation from Dak Lak province, Vietnam to discuss and explore opportunities for collaboration with Goulburn. If all goes well we will be signing a new memorandum of understanding to become friendship cities. This is not the same as a Sister City relationship, but commits us to cooperation including potential exchange programs, cultural tourism and information sharing.

Pitchfest 2019

Goulburn’s second ever Pitchfest will be hosted at the Collective (corner Auburn & Market Streets) next Tuesday 3rd December from 5:30pm.

The Goulburn Region Innovation Network wants to hear from individuals, business owners and entrepreneurs who have a business idea you think Goulburn would benefit from. The event provides a platform for you to pitch your business or idea to a live audience and expert panel for the chance to win great prizes including cash, entry into the CBRIN’s Lean Startup Bootcamp, a marketing plan developed with Purple Thread Marketing and business mentoring.

Unfortunately I will be preoccupied with a Council meeting, but I hope a huge crowd attends the event to hear some exciting new business ideas!

Local Citizen of the Year

Residents are invited to nominate fellow citizens or events for the Local Citizen/Event of the Year Awards. The awards aim to recognise outstanding achievement, or event held, during the past year and/or contribution to the local community over a number of years in a non-financial capacity.

Winners will be announced during the Australia Day Celebrations in Victoria Park on January 26th.

To nominate simply visit our website and search Australia Day, or drop into the Civic Centre to pick up a form.
