Beams placed at Towrang Bridge

Fourty concrete beams are being placed on the Towrang Bridge, signifying the beginning of the final stage of the project following a wet start to 2022.

Over 365 millimetres of rain has been recorded in Goulburn this year, which has caused delays as the Wollondilly River has flooded on a number of occasions. The bridge and new road approaches are now expected to be completed by the end of the financial year.

The wet weather will see completion delayed by one to two months, but it has been pleasing to see that the new bridge has stayed above water during recent floods which have been quite significant.

Once completed the Towrang Bridge will sit at 4.5 metres higher than the previous structure, and will now be a two lane bridge over 80 metres in length. New approaches will also provide safer access for residents.

The project will also facilitate improved stock and produce transport, which has previously been cut off for days at a time when significant floods occur.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council accepted a tender from Bridgeworks Australia for the project in June 2021. $2 million was received through the Federal Government Bridges Renewal Program, with Council over $1 million to the project.

Stage is set for opening weekends

The curtain will raise for the first time this evening at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, with the facility to be officially opened this weekend.

Tonight we will officially open the venue, and I will be joined by a number of special guests including Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, the Hon Wendy Tuckerman, Minister for Local Government and Member for Goulburn and the Hon Angus Taylor, Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction & Member for Hume for a preview performance of REeNTRANCE.

On Saturday the doors will open to four hundred community members who will witness REeNTRANCE; a performance created by our creative community that is a celebration of cherished memories, combined moments and the continuation of building momentum into the future, brought together by our various community groups and individuals.

For more information, and to purchase tickets for upcoming shows, visit www.goulburnpac.com.au

On Saturday morning I will join the hockey fraternity to open the Goulburn Regional Hockey Complex. The new complex contains two synthetic fields, national championship quality lighting and a new expanded car park that now comes straight off Deccan Street. Council will award a tender for the amenities upgrade in the coming months, which will complete the project.

Following the official opening and speeches Goulburn Hockey Association held a come and try day, before Goulburn’s three Canberra Capital League teams played their opening round matches.

The NSW Government provided $3.872 million towards this project, Council contributed just over $3 million to purchase the facility and Goulburn District Hockey Association also contributed $200,000.

We are grateful to the 430 community members who provided their ideas and views regarding the future of our area, by attending local popups, writing submissions, completing surveys, contributing to group discussions, and taking part in telephone interviews. However we are still keen to receive more feedback, so please provide comment.

Submissions are to be in writing and addressed to:  The General Manager, Locked Bag 22, Goulburn NSW 2580, alternatively they can be emailed to debbie.mccarthy@goulburn.nsw.gov.au
