Thirteen local junior athletes were on Tuesday night presented with cheques following successful applications to Round 1 of the 2019/20 Ray Harvey Sports Foundation.

The foundation in this round donated $2,950, which will assist these young athletes in attending representative sport training and events.

Mayor Bob Kirk, Deputy Mayor Peter Walker and Cr Margaret O’Neill presented cheques to the outstanding representative athletes prior to last night’s council meeting. Community representative on the committee Michael O’Neill also attended the presentation.

Recipients in this round of grant applications included athletes competing in rugby union, equestrian, hockey, athletics, rugby league, taekwondo, netball and cricket. Two touch football referees were also included in this round, highlighting the wonderful sporting talent in the Goulburn Mulwaree region.

The recipients of grants this round were Dylan Biles (Rugby Union), Jordan Gregory (Touch Football Referee), Alyssa Gregory (Touch Football Referee), Heidi Staples (Equestrian/Showjumping), Katelyn Staples (Equestrian/Showjumping), James Quade (Hockey), Sophie Pagett (Rugby League), Ella Pagett (Hockey), Charlotte Kalozi (Athletics), Joshua Kalozi (Athletics), Merrin Eagles (Takewondo), Emilee Skelly (Netball), Callum Smith (Cricket).

Cr Margaret O’Neill, who chairs the Ray Harvey Sports Foundation, said the committee was again pleased with the talented athletes and the quality of applications.

“It was brilliant to again have such a diverse range of sports represented at the November Ray Harvey Sports Foundation cheque presentation. These kids should be congratulated for the time and effort they put into their chosen sport, and it is a great legacy of Ray’s that continues to support junior athletes.”

“Sport is more important than ever in the lives of young people today. It teaches kids how to be a part of a team, or how to focus their energy into a positive outlet, and it’s great to see our local kids achieving at high levels.”

The next round of funding will be Round 2 of the 2019/20 financial year; these will be advertised in the Post Weekly newspaper and on Council’s website in the first half of 2020. For more information please contact Kayleen Pagett on 4823 4538.
