Playgrounds, outdoor gyms and dog off-leash areas open

Following on from the NSW Government’s decision to ease restrictions from today, Goulburn Mulwaree Council will be opening playgrounds, outdoor gyms, dog off-leash areas and skate parks.

Council sought more information on the issue, which has now been confirmed through NSW Health and the Office of Local Government. Facilities will be progressively opened by staff throughout Friday, with all expected to be open to the community from Saturday.

Mayor Bob Kirk reinforced the importance of social distancing and personal hygiene to the community.

“We are all excited to feel we have some light at the end of the tunnel, and the easing of restrictions is the first step to hopefully returning to a sense of normality.

“NSW Health is clearly stating that the responsibility is on individuals to maintain distancing and hygiene practices. Wash your hands before and after using equipment and assume the person who used equipment before you has the virus - the community is encouraged to use their own sanitising wipes prior to and after use. A second wave is a real threat, so please take the guidance seriously.”

The Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre will remain closed for the time being, as only outdoor pools are currently able to be operated, and this is not worthwhile as we head into winter. Other facilities such as the Goulburn Mulwaree Library, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Community Centre and Council Museums remain closed to the public.

Outdoor gatherings of up to ten people are now allowed, and five visitors are allowed to visit households – these totals must include any children. For further information please go to www.nsw.gov.au
