Two Council Facilities Announced as Finalists

The Goulburn Regional Art Gallery has been announced as a finalist in The IMAGinE Awards, in the Innovation and Resilience award for projects with a budget of between $10,001 and $100,000 category. The IMAGinE awards highlight the resilience, innovation and creativity of museums, galleries and Aboriginal cultural centres and recognise the people who work in them. The museums, galleries and Aboriginal cultural centres of NSW provide historical, contemporary and future context. They tell stories about their communities and reflect on what they might become. Their programs record history and grow ideas; they generate and support creative processes that contribute to economic, social and health related wellbeing. They help build resilient and sustainable communities. IMAGinE celebrates all institutions and pays homage to those organisations run by volunteers, with limited budgets and minimal resources.

“We are thrilled to hear that Goulburn Regional Art Gallery has been announced as a Nominee for the 2022 IMAGinE Awards. This project and the resulting exhibition from Harriett Body in collaboration with members of our community faced various challenges throughout COVID-19 lockdowns, however the resulting exhibition ‘Yours’ was a wonderful way to open the Gallery’s 2022 exhibition program.

With 40 years of history, the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery is an important part of our creative community,” said Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Johansson.

The awards personation night for the IMAGinE Awards will take place at the Chau Chak Wing Museum on Thursday 24 November, 2022.

The Goulburn Mulwaree Animal Shelter has been announced as a finalist in the Pet Insurance Australia Companion Animal Rescue Awards (Rescue Awards) in the category of ‘Australian Pet Welfare Foundation Award for Councils’. The Rescue Awards is Australia’s first and only national awards program that shines the light on rescue groups, animal shelters, councils and companion animal welfare organisations who continue to save thousands of animal lives during these challenging times.

“This is a true credit to the hard work and dedication of the Ranger Team, both past and present, to prioritise and champion rehoming of animals from the shelter since the rebranding in 2019.” said Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Aaron Johansson.

“Goulburn Mulwaree Council has a strong desire to be a leader in industry best practice across the board and the rebranding and change in strategic direction and operational focus of the animal shelter reflects this position”. He continued.

Council has demonstrated its commitment to implementing change for the betterment of the animals entering the shelter, promoting responsible pet ownership and improving broader community outcomes. To be named as a Finalist in these awards is recognition of this sustained ongoing commitment and the extraordinary success of Councils adoption program which has seen demand for animals for adoption from our Shelter continuing to exceed those available at our facility.

Staff have been delighted to be able to help such a significant number of animals find their forever homes, with families often sending photos and stories of how their adopted animals are enjoying life outside the shelter, much to the delight of the team. The Goulburn Mulwaree Animal Shelter actively promotes its successful adoption program through its Facebook page and also uses the platform to reunite lost animals with their owners and to provide education on responsible pet ownership to the community. The winners for the Companion Animal Rescue Awards will be revealed at a virtual Rescue Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 26 of October, 2022 at 4pm AEDT.
