Hockey Announcement Nov 2020 (7) (Custom).JPG

Future of Hockey secured

Last week we made consecutive announcements that will secure the future of Hockey in our region for decades to come.

Firstly we were finally able to sign the contract to purchase the land in South Goulburn where the Hockey Complex is situated off the Workers Club following lengthy discussions and negotiations. It made sense for us to take advantage of the current site and infrastructure already in place here.

Secondly, and most importantly, I was pleased to join NSW Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman for the announcement of $3.8 million in funding towards redevelopment of the facility. This funding is essential for us to undertake the urgent work needed to again have two fields available for play in our region. The project will include construction of a new national standard water based field, alongside a huge amenities upgrade including new lighting, change rooms, toilets and public amenities.

Thanks must go to Wendy who worked hard behind the scenes on this project, and the NSW Government for the generous funding. Congratulations also to the Goulburn District Hockey Association. Their committee are a hardworking, dedicated team who have been integral to securing the future of hockey in this region.

Household Chemical Cleanout

It’s time to clean out your cupboards or shed and dispose of household problem wastes for free, including paints, chemicals, batteries, gas bottles and more.

The cleanout will once again be held at Council facilities, allowing residents to remove chemicals and hazardous wastes from their homes through the annual Household Chemical CleanOut.

The events are taking place on Sunday 13th December at the Goulburn Recreation Area between 8am and 12pm, and at the Marulan Waste Management Centre between 2pm and 4pm. Council has decided to continue with the Goulburn event at the Recreation Area due to the growing popularity of the chemical cleanout.

The event is for household waste only, up to a maximum of 20 litres or kilograms of items like household cleaners, pesticides, motor fuels, paint and gas bottles. A full list is available to view online on Council’s website.

Aquatic Centre Redevelopment Update

As the weather continues to heat up, a reminder that our outdoor pool at the Goulburn Aquatic Centre is still open for use as normal, alongside the currently occurring construction of the new centre.

Our contractor, FDC, have made good progress on the project across the past two months since I last provided an update. The demolition of the indoor pool and removal of material has now been completed, with earthworks on the site now underway.

A construction certificate for foundations has been issued, with a second construction certificate for main construction works also nearing completion. The priorities through until Christmas will be to complete the earthworks and foundational piling. Once completed works on our pool structures will begin!
