Indoor Pool repairs underway

Repair work on the indoor pool roof at the Goulburn Aquatic Centre began this week, and are expected to be completed by the end of the December which is great news.

As community members will remember, two timber roof beams spanning the indoor pool failed in late September following heavy snowfall. We had to immediately close the pool and put temporary support struts in place while we worked with engineers and construction companies to come up with a solution.

We have been working with two companies on proposed solutions, and the lowest quote for repair works came in at $157,420. A claim for this work to be covered will be lodged to Council’s insurance company.

I’d like to thank residents for their patience while we worked through this process. Safety has been our number one concern, and I’m really pleased that we will have the indoor pool open in January in time for the rest of summer.

Keep saving water!

Since going onto amber water restrictions at the start of December we have seen a great response from our community, and I wanted to quickly thank the 99% of people doing a great job.

We are receiving reports of some people not following the restrictions properly. The vast majority of our residents are doing a great job, and we recognise that it’s been less than two weeks since we first announced these restrictions, so we aren’t going to start compliance action and handing out fines straight away!

I’d like to encourage neighbours who see someone misusing water to politely approach them and have a chat about the restrictions – you may find that they aren’t aware that we are on restrictions or exactly what they mean. If you see continued water use outside what is allowed on the restrictions then feel free to contact Council on 4823 4444.

Please check the Council advertisement page within today’s Post Weekly for the full details on amber level water restrictions.

School Presentations 2019

Throughout the week I’ve been busily travelling around to many school’s presentation nights and afternoons, which are all wonderful events.

I unfortunately can’t make every school event in the region due to conflicting times, but we are lucky enough to have Deputy Mayor Peter Walker and other Councillors fill in for me at times.

This year we have introduced the Mayoral Community Pride Award for each school in Goulburn Mulwaree – this is chosen by the school to recognise the brilliant contributions made to community by a student each year. It will be an ongoing award each year, and is a nice way to recognise the efforts made outside the classroom or away from the sporting fields.
