Huge weekend of events – get involved

It is fantastic to have events back in Goulburn Mulwaree, and we have a huge upcoming calendar of things to see and do in the region during Autumn.

I would firstly like to begin by again recognising the enormous amount of work done by the Goulburn Show Society to put on their event last week. Unfortunately they received awful weather which meant many things had to be cancelled, and Sunday altogether, but they do an amazing job. I am sure our community will respond with enthusiasm in 2023 to get behind them.

Steampunk Victoriana Fair returns from today, running across the entire weekend this year. Tonight an outdoor cinema and fire show will be held at Seiffert Oval in Victoria Park, before two packed days across the weekend at the Goulburn Historic Waterworks.

Also this weekend, residents are invited to come along on Saturday morning to Belmore Park to celebrate the City of Goulburn’s 159th Birthday.

Celebrations will be held in the stunning Belmore Park within the CBD from 10am, with the traditional cutting of the cake, and speeches from the Mayor, Federal Member for Goulburn & Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor and our three high school captains. For the first time we will present the Goulburn Mulwaree Award recipients, recognising some of the fine citizens of our area. This local award has been created to recognise outstanding service or meritorious achievement by individuals to the community of the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government area.

I look forward to seeing plenty of residents out and about across the weekend. If you have never been to Steampunk make sure you get yourself there this week – it is a creative, different event that is a whole lot of fun.

Aquatic Centre Redevelopment

The grand opening of the redeveloped Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre has been delayed one month, likely to now be opened in the last week of April, on Friday 29th.

Although the vast majority of the pool hall and plant room work is complete, the project has been severely affected by wet weather over the past three weeks, leading to a delay in completion of external stairs and the southern car park.

We have made the difficult decision to delay the opening by a month, to allow the project to be properly completed, and look forward to welcoming the community into the facility across that weekend at the end of April.

Council has to ensure that once we open the doors the site is accessible and safe for all, and we would also like to have it looking fantastic with the completion of all of the landscaping and external works before we do let patrons in for use.

Once we have a firm confirmation of a completion date in early April we will announce this, and look forward to a huge opening weekend likely on the final weekend of that month. We can’t wait for our community to see this wonderful facility.

The Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre redevelopment includes a new 8 lane twenty five metre indoor pool, indoor program pool, hydrotherapy pool, water play areas, gym, café linking with Victoria Park, upgraded change rooms and facilities and new car parking facilities.

Ellesmere Street Water Main

From Monday 21st March Council will begin works to lay new water main along Ellesmere Street, which will involve excavation, trenching, pipe laying and restoration works which are expected to take two to three weeks.

Businesses have been notified and there will be no impact to town water supply, however there will be some traffic control in place which will affect car parking in this busy area. Please take note of the works and any traffic control measures; we hope to have the project completed quickly to minimise inconvenience to the community.
