It’s time to clean out your cupboards or shed and dispose of household problem wastes for free, including paints, chemicals, batteries, gas bottles and more.

Upper Lachlan Shire Council and Goulburn Mulwaree Council are working together to help residents remove chemicals and hazardous wastes from their homes through the annual Household Chemical CleanOut.

The events are taking place on Saturday 7 December in Goulburn and Tarago, and on Sunday 8 December in Crookwell.

The Goulburn event will be held at the Goulburn Recreation Area between 8am and 12pm, and the Tarago event is at the Tarago Waste Management Centre between 2pm and 4pm on the Saturday. Please note that the Goulburn event has moved location this year and will run for an hour longer due to the popularity of last year’s event.

The Crookwell event will take place at Todkill Park between 8am and 11am on the Sunday.

“Upper Lachlan Shire Council has participated in this program since 2011 and we are pleased to join forces with Goulburn Mulwaree Council in promoting the event this year,” said Upper Lachlan Mayor John Stafford.

Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Bob Kirk described the program as a great opportunity for residents to dispose of hazardous wastes such as paint, gas bottles and chemicals for free.

“This event is held once a year and most items are not otherwise accepted at Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s waste facilities so I encourage the community to take advantage of this event.”

Residents can dispose of household quantities of the following household chemicals and items – up to a maximum of 20 litres or 20 kilograms of a single item:

  • Solvents and household cleaners
  • Floor care products
  • Ammonia-based cleaners
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Poisons
  • Pool chemicals
  • Hobby chemicals
  • Motor fuels
  • Fluorescent globes and tubes
  • Acids and alkalis
  • Smoke detectors
  • Paint and paint-related products
  • Gas bottles
  • Fire extinguishers
  • Car and household batteries
  • Motor oils and cooking oils

This event is for household problem wastes only. Business-related and commercial quantities of chemicals are not accepted.

The Household Chemical CleanOut is supported by the NSW EPA and the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO).
