Highly commended in Innovative Leadership & Management

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has been awarded highly commended in the Innovative Leadership and Management category of the 2020 NSW Local Government Excellence Awards.
Council received the award for our LEAP with PRIDE transformational training in which every staff member within the organisation was involved. It was an extremely challenging process in which Council empowered our people to believe in themselves, hold each other accountable and build high performing teams – in turn transforming our culture and how our staff view and demonstrate leadership.
General Manager Warwick Bennett said the program had been a game changer, and will be ongoing moving forward.
“The teamwork and culture of our organisation has been completely changed for the better, with staff working closer together and holding each other to account which is brilliant.”
“It’s incredibly important to us that this impact isn’t lost as we move forward so we have now trained facilitators within the organisation to ensure this legacy lives on in our new employees through the LEAP induction program. All of this translated into our best ever results within the staff satisfaction survey showing Goulburn Mulwaree Council as an employer of choice for our region.”
Council was last week ranked number 1 for customer service within the Local Government Sector following ‘mystery shopper benchmarking’ for the 2019/20 financial year, which can also be partly attributed to the LEAP program.

We employ a diverse workforce of more than 250 staff throughout the region. There are many differing areas of skills within our workforce – including those with technical abilities like plant operations, finance, water and sewer, customer service, marketing and tourism, planning and development and other areas.
The 2020 award presentation were announced online during a series of live video conference events due to the inability to hold a major event due to COVID-19.
