Construction is set to begin on a world-class regional Performing Arts Centre in Goulburn, after Council gave the project the final go ahead at Tuesday night’s Council meeting.

Council accepted the construction price from Zauner Construction for the project, and included the fly tower at an additional cost of $450,000. The total project cost has now been approved at $18.95m.

Mayor Bob Kirk said it was a proud moment for him as Mayor, and a great milestone for Council.

“As the community is aware there has been a huge amount of work put into this project, and we now approach the exciting stage of construction.

“I’m pleased that we have been able to include the fly tower within the PAC, as this was noted by community arts and culture groups as essential for a high quality regional facility. The project is fully funded, with only $6.3m in loan funding at the very low interest rate of 2.5% which is very manageable for Council.”

Zauner Constructions have developed a detailed works program for the amended design. Council will now need to undertake significant works over the next ten weeks including demolition, excavation and finalisation of development application modification.

If these timelines are met site establishment by Zauner Constructions would occur in October, with a detailed works program for 2020 outlined. The projected completion date and handover for the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre is in late February 2021.

The economic assessment supported inclusion of the fly tower, with benefit cost ratio of 1.10 with the fly tower included. Initial use projection with the fly tower is 200 commercial and local based shows per year.
