Mayor Bob Kirk, Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor MP and NSW Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman are meeting regularly and discussing community responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The three community leaders would like to publically thank residents of Goulburn and the wider region for their calm, proactive approach to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

In Goulburn Mulwaree there have been ten local resident cases of COVID-19, with nine of these fully recovered. National discussion has now turned to progressive lifting of restrictions, with this likely to be an evolving situation until a vaccine is found.

As representatives of the three tiers of Government we will work closely together to provide leadership and direction on the recovery process.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the new COVIDSafe app is a crucial step to get to the other side of this pandemic.

“We are winning this battle, and people in Goulburn are doing a fantastic job to contain the spread of the virus however, now is not the time to become complacent. By downloading the COVIDSafe app we are protecting lives and livelihoods. It is the key to slowly lifting restrictions and returning to normal life,” Mr Taylor said.

NSW Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman also thanked the community for their efforts, but encouraged everyone to remain focused on the task at hand.

“As we navigate the COVID 19 pandemic we must be vigilant in ensuring we don’t go backwards after all our good work done.

“It will be a challenging time going forward as we navigate lifting restrictions and the impact that may have. It may be changing every day so please continue to seek advice through official channels.

“The pandemic has left a lot of people seriously affected. It has been a tough time for many, particularly small business, and I encourage everyone to continue to support our small businesses throughout the region.

Mayor Bob Kirk thanked residents for reacting quickly and taking the situation seriously.

“I saw the best in our community over the past 6 weeks, as our lives changed instantly. In regular discussions with local Police I’ve been told that the vast majority did the right thing, and this has helped slow the spread in our region.

“Let us not get complacent however, as we likely have a long path ahead of us. I’m sure we are all looking forward to some relaxing of restrictions, but it is possible that they will need to be tightened again and we should have that in the back of our minds as we continue to practice social distancing in order to stay safe.”

Mayor Kirk, Angus Taylor and Wendy Tuckerman are communicating regularly over zoom conferences whilst restrictions are in place.
