$5.5 million worth of upgrades for Windellama Road

Work is underway on the Windellama Road, with $5.5 million to be spent on the road over the next two years.

$4.56 million was gained through the NSW & Federal Government’s accelerated Fixing Local Roads program in April. The program aims to improve local roads and create jobs in the regions. Goulburn Mulwaree Council have also tipped in $1 million towards the project.

Mayor Bob Kirk said he is pleased to see the project underway, employing mostly local contractors.

“This funding injection has allowed us to bring forward a significant amount of work for Windellama Road, which residents know is becoming busier each year. Work will involve pavement rehabilitation, curve realignments and major drainage upgrades between Gundary Lane and Spa Road.”

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the Fixing Local Roads program is a key source of funding for local road improvements.

“This upgrade will make Windellama Road safer for road users and most importantly, it will create much-needed jobs in our community.”

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said improving Council’s priority local roads, like Windellama Road, is critical for regional people.

“Projects funded through Fixing Local Roads are the ones that make a big difference in lives. Roads like Windellama Road are what families use to get to town and home again – driving the road every day.

“Windellama Road builds on the NSW Government’s commitment to building a safer, stronger road network in the regions. I’m delighted that this project will improve connectivity across the Goulburn electorate, as well as making the road safer, more efficient and more reliable.”

Works will be undertaken over 5 stages, which have commenced at the Oallen Ford Road and Windellama Road intersection. The project will move to focus on the section between Windellama Road and Elouera Lane in the coming months.
