Strengthening Sister City relationship

The sister city relationship between Goulburn and Shibetsu, Japan, will continue to grow following a Council decision last week.

Councillors endorsed a visit to Shibetsu in 2018 as a Council authorised activity, and will seek to make the focus of this visit a business one. General Manager Warwick Bennett will now liaise with Shibetsu City Council to determine any business opportunities that may exist between the two regions.

Mayor Bob Kirk said the delegation was a great opportunity to see an amazing part of Japan, with a strong link to Goulburn.

“The Sister City relationship with Shibetsu is a productive one that adds much to both cities from a social and cultural aspect. This delegation will also be an opportunity to strengthen or form new business connections between the two cities, as we approach the 20th anniversary of the Sister City agreement in 2019.”

Council is now calling for interested representatives of Goulburn businesses, as well as any community member who would like to participate in the delegation to contact Council about the details of the 2018 trip.

All Councillors, Council staff and community members who wish to take part in the delegation must pay their own way in full.

Community members are invited to email council@goulburn.nsw.gov.au with the subject line ‘Shibetsu 2018’ if they are interested in joining the delegation. Residents can also call 4823 4444 and ask to speak with Debbie McCarthy for more information.
