Tallong Apple Festival
It was another fantastic day out at the annual
Tallong Apple Festival; I was honoured to open the festival for another year.
Tallong, as most are aware, is the ancestral home
of the Kettle family and this lives on now with my daughter, Melissa, and her
family now living in Tallong and she is an integral part of the Tallong Apple
Day Committee.
The Apple Day has become one of the biggest
events in our region’s calendar, and people came from Sydney, Canberra and all
over our region to attend the day.
Events throughout the day included a live band,
rock climbing, wood chopping and cooking demonstrations. There were also
photography, creative writing & poetry, ‘Tallong’s Got Talent’ and apple
pie eating competitions.
Goulburn
Relay for Life 2016 Hope Ball
I also attended the annual Relay for Life Hope
Ball on Saturday night, and it was a fantastic evening out at the Goulburn
Workers Club. A huge thanks must go to Mel and the team who organised the whole
ball and worked extremely hard behind the scenes; they raised over $10,000 for
a fantastic cause.
Colour me fun run
Topping off another huge
weekend of events in Goulburn, the Colour Me Fun Run was held on Sunday in
Victoria Park. Over 750 participants entered on the day despite some slightly
wet, cold conditions.
Over 100 local community
volunteers assisted organisers at the event raising approximately $3,000 for
their groups – these included Goulburn Mulwaree Rural Fire Service, Goulburn
High School, Riding for the Disabled and Be Seen Be Heard.
I’ve heard nothing but
fantastic reports about the day, which was a fantastic community event for
Goulburn. A huge congratulations must go to the Goulburn Mulwaree Council
Marketing & Events team who were integral in bringing the event to
Goulburn, and it’s something I hope continues for many years to come!
Stained Glass Windows presentation and guided tour
Tomorrow (Friday the 6th
of May) there are two events being run by the Goulburn Mulwaree Library as part
of the 2016 National Trust Heritage Festival. Renowned stained glass artist
Kevin Little will present a talk, and a guided tour of the stained glass
windows in St Saviours Cathedral. Mr Little worked in the industry his entire
life, and his family has over 110 years of service in stained glass.
Kevin will be presenting two
events as part of the Festival. At 10:30am in the Goulburn Mulwaree Council
Chambers he will present a talk about the making of stained glass windows and
some key pieces he designed and created.
From 12:30pm Kevin will be
running a guided tour through St Saviour’s Cathedral that will highlight the
stained glass windows in the stunning Cathedral.
Bookings are essential for both of these events, and can be made at
the Library or by phoning 4823 4435.
