Goulburn Mulwaree Heritage Awards 2016
Planning is well underway for the 2016
Goulburn Mulwaree Heritage Awards, which this year will recognise 2 major
categories; the best maintained heritage building and natural
heritage conservation. Within the Natural Heritage Conservation are three
award areas which are: conservation/restoration work report, research report
and heritage garden restoration.
This annual event aims to recognise the work
being done in the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government area to conserve our
heritage for future generations. The Goulburn Mulwaree programme takes a wide
interpretation of ‘heritage’ to encompass the work individuals and community
groups do to conserve the built, natural, moveable and social heritage which
has been passed down to us.
Applications forms will soon be available from
the Goulburn Mulwaree Council website or from Customer Service at Council.
Candidate Briefing Session
Are you interested in standing for council
elections this September? If so you should attend a candidate briefing session
being held by Local Government NSW in conjunction with Goulburn Mulwaree
Council this Monday the 18th of July at 5:30pm.
Content covered will include the benefits and importance of Local
Government, understanding the role of Council and Councillors, challenges of
the role, importance of diverse representation on Council, introduction to
local government jargon and what it means, support available, meeting
procedures and rules of debate.
If you are considering running for council and
wish to attend the workshop please phone Maria Timothy on 4823 4467.
Dog Off-Leash areas
Over the past week we have been undertaking community consultation for new dog off-leash areas in Goulburn. In 2016/17 we have $20,000 allocated for a new space, and these areas are fast becoming popular locations in Goulburn for our community.
We have created designs for both Garfield Park
and Leggett Park that have proven to be popular with the community. At this
stage it is looking like council may proceed with Garfield Park in West
Goulburn first and Leggett Park will be scheduled as the next off-leash area.
Feedback from the community is still welcomed;
the information and proposed locations are available on our Facebook page, or
on Council’s website.
National Tree Day 2016
This year National Tree Day is being held in
conjunction with the launch of Local Government Week. Come down to the Wollondilly
River between Albert & Prince streets from 9am – 12pm for a fantastic day
where we will be planting hundreds of trees along the beautiful Wollondilly
River Walkway!
Goulburn Toyota is the major sponsor for the
event, and will be providing a free t-shirt and BBQ lunch for all participants.
There will also be a free jumping castle on the day for children.
For enquiries please contact Anne on 4823
4538.
Biggest Read Author Talk
To celebrate The Biggest Read, author Stephen
Orr will be interviewed by local TV personality, author and political
cartoonist Warren Brown at the Library. This will be a fascinating insight into
Stephen’s writing and inspiration for ‘The
Hands – an Australian Pastoral.’
The talk will be held on Saturday the 23rd
of July from 2pm at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library. A light lunch will be served
and competition winners will be announced. The event is free but bookings are
essential; please phone 4823 4435.
