Food Safety forum attracts over a hundred!
A Retail and Food Service Information Session held in partnership with NSW Food Authority attracted over a hundred participants on Thursday.
The meeting was held as one of a series of regular consultation events delivered throughout the year, and was the first of its kind to be held in Goulburn. The event showcased Council’s commitment to working positively with local retail food businesses, and was a great opportunity to also promote the high level of food safety compliance that Goulburn Mulwaree’s businesses achieve.
Mayor Bob Kirk attended and was pleased by the strong attendance. “It was great to have representatives from a wide variety of food and retail businesses from Goulburn Mulwaree and surrounding regions. It opened my eyes to the stringent regulation that these organisations must all meet, but it is great to know we have people working hard behind the scenes to serve us great food, safely!”
Sarah Walsh, Goulburn Mulwaree’s Environmental Health Officer, said the event was a great success. “At Council we believe the key to safety within the food industry is developing positive, long-term relationships with business and we think that we have some great business owners and managers in town. This information session was another step to achieve this, and I think everyone who attended thought it was worthwhile.”
NSW Food Authority CEO Dr. Lisa Szabo was also pleased by the event attendance. “The meeting was an opportunity for business operators to learn more about the resources available to support them, and to keep informed of food safety standards and regulations. A strong culture of food safety is good for business too – your reputation is everything, once you break that trust with your customer it can be difficult to recover.”
Food Safety is the top priority for the NSW Food Authority and they support local councils across the state to ensure all retail and food businesses are inspected and comply with food safety regulation.
