2017 Urban Reseal Program

2017 Urban Reseal Program

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is beginning the annual urban road resealing program, with work scheduled to commence on Monday 4th December 2017 and be completed by Friday 22nd December 2017, weather permitting.

Resurfacing or resealing roads is part of Council’s ongoing asset preservation program designed to improve and restore the road pavement. Prior to the sealing Council and contractors carry out maintenance activities to assist with the longevity of the treatment, such as kerb and gutter repairs, asphalt patching, crack sealing and removal of weeds from gutters.

Each year a number of local roads require resealing to preserve the lower foundations and extend their useful lifespan by approximately 15 years.

Road resealing happens when the road pavement is in good condition, but the surface has deteriorated to a point where it requires intervention. It generally involves spraying hot bitumen over the existing surface, quickly tipping a layer of stone on top and rolling the stone into the bitumen. While Council appreciates this can be temporarily inconvenient for residents, it is an asset preservation practice to prolong the lifespan of one of our most expensive and important assets - road pavements.

Traffic management measures will be in place during this time. This will include some detours around the work site, although access to private property will be maintained at all times. The work program should only see each street restricted for 2-4 hours at a time. Residents will also be notified the day prior to resealing works in their street, and Council requests that you refrain from parking vehicles on the roadway during this time.

Whilst measures will be taken to minimise any inconvenience, your cooperation will be appreciated during these works.

If you experience any problems whilst works are progressing please contact Chris Brassel, Contractor Supervision & Inspection Officer, on 02 4823 4818.
