Design Projects

Last modified: November 9, 2009 - 10:43 PM

Council constructs a multitude of various engineering projects every year.

Each of these projects requires proper engineering survey, investigation and design to ensure it is built in accordance with accepted guidelines and Australian Standards.

Such guidelines might include RTA standards for traffic facilities such as roundabouts, and the Australian Standards might include the use of concrete for stormwater pits.

The engineering designs are plotted onto plastic sheets using computer aided drafting (CAD) software. Upon completion of the construction, the drawings are amended to indicate the "as executed" works and are registered and stored for future reference.

In addition to the above, most Development Applications submitted to Council require assessment for their impact on, or need for, engineering infrastructure. For example, a proposed residential subdivision on a greenfields site will require investigation into whether engineering services such as roads, water supply and sewerage are available/adequate to service the development.
