Overview of Goulburn's Recycling Process

Last modified: November 9, 2009 - 10:44 PM

Goulburn's domestic recycling service is provided by Goulburn Mulwaree Council in partnership with Endeavour Industries.

After household recycling is collected, it is transported to Goulburn Recycling at Endeavour Industries to be sorted.

Paper and cardboard is removed from the recycling bins and the remaining materials are hand sorted by Endeavour's dedicated staff.

The sorting process is extremely important as even small amounts of contaminantion can cause a whole load of recycling to be rejected by the buyer.

The recycling process can be thwarted by the inclusion of lids from jars and caps from bottles or by brown glass mixed in with clear glass, or worse still, ceramics, china pieces, mirror or window glass mixed in with any glass.

Contaminants must be removed as only 25 grams of this non-recyclable material can contaminate 1 tonne of glass.

After sorting materials are ready to be compacted and then sold to various recycling companies such as Smorgan Steel and Visy.

What can you put in your recycling bin?

Endeavour Industries can recycle a large number of materials including:

  • Cardboard
  • Plastic bottles (types 1, 2, 3, 4,5, 6 and 7)
  • Steel cans (including aerosol cans and paint tins)
  • Aluminium cans
  • Glass jars and bottles
