Stormwater Drainage

Last modified: November 9, 2009 - 10:44 PM

Council's objectives for stormwater drainage are twofold.

  1. To provde an urban stormwater system which minimises possible inundation to the built environment and
  2. To minimise the carriage of pollutants into receiving waters.
Routine work associated with this program includes:
  • Maintenance of existing stormwater infrastructure and
  • Construction of new stormwater mains.
Extensive work has been carried out in recent years to improve the quality of water emanating from the city that enters the receiving waters of the Wollondilly River or Mulwaree Ponds. Council prepared a Stormwater Management Plan with actions recommended in the plan being implemented over a number of years. These include: erosion and sedimentation control measures; a comprehensive education program; sedimentation basins and gross pollutant traps. Council works closely with and seeks funding assistance from the Sydney Catchment Authority and the EPA to ensure the effectiveness of this work. Future works in the Stormwater Drainage program are listed in the following forward plans:
  • Stormwater Drainage Pipelines
  • Stormwater Drainage Levy - Stormwater Quality Improvement Works
  • Grant Works - Stormwater Quality Improvements
