Gross Pollutant Traps

Last modified: November 9, 2009 - 10:44 PM

Goulburn Mulwaree Council has installed gross pollutant traps throughout much of its stormwater system.

These traps act as sieves or filters as stormwater passes through them. They collect gross pollutants (litter, leaves and dirt) before they can enter Goulburn's waterways and so,

  • Keep the City's waterways clean
  • Reduce pollutants in Sydney's water supply (Warragamba Dam)
  • Educate the Goulburn community, with many G.P.T.'s having signs displaying information and statistics
These can be viewed along Goulburn Mulwaree Council's Community Stormwater Walk. Recent statistics from cleaning the G.P.T.'s indicates that they have been very successful in preventing a lot of the litter, leaves and dirt from our streets being washed into local rivers and creeks.
