Candidate Information Seminar - 21 May in Goulburn

The NSW Electoral Commission is holding a Candidate Seminar on Wednesday 21 May at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Civic Centre, 184-194 Bourke Street, Goulburn, starting at 6pm. No pre-registration is required. More information is available here.

 

Becoming a Councillor Pre Election Information Seminar - 26 May in Goulburn  

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is hosting a Pre Election Information Seminar to assist people considering standing as a candidate. The seminar is on Monday 26 May 2008 from 6pm in the Council Chambers, 184-194 Bourke Street, Goulburn. Please contact Ken Wheeldon or Vivienne Flanagan on 02 4823 4481 to confirm if you wish to attend.

This Seminar is also open to candidates from surrounding Local Government Areas.  

It will be facilitated by the Local Government and Shires Association. The following topics will be addressed:

  • What is Local Government?
  • Why do I want to become a Councillor
  • A Council's charter
  • Council services and functions
  • The Elected Representative
    • Representing the community
    • Exercising a governance role
  • Undertaking a community leadership role - the challenge
  • The General Manager and staff relationships
  • Making decisions - Council Meetings
  • Remuneration allowances for Councillors
  • Nomination – “How do I stand for election to become a Councillor”.
