Recruitment & Selection
Any matter relating to appointment, promotion, training and dismissal is determined under the "merit" principal, whereby decisions are based on individual competencies, qualifications and experience.
All positions with Goulburn Mulwaree Council are advertised in a manner sufficient to attract a suitable pool of applicants. Council utilises a range of advertising media including: Goulburn Mulwaree Council website (www.goulburn.nsw.gov.au), Goulburn Post, Employment Agencies, Sydney Morning Herald, and the Local Government Job Directory (www.job-directory.com.au).
Equal Employment Opportunity
In 1977 the NSW Government passed the Anti Discrimination Act. The original Act outlawed discriminating on the grounds of race, sex and marital status. A number of amendments since then have added physical impairment, intellectual impairment and homosexuality as grounds on which to discriminate.
All employers in NSW, including Councils are covered under the provisions of the NSW Anti Discrimination Act. The Act applies to a number of areas: employment, provision of goods and services, accommodation, registered clubs, public education and advertising
Goulburn Mulwaree Council has developed an EEO Management Plan, which in part provides that any matter relating to appointment, promotion, training and dismissal will be determined under the "merit" principal which means that decisions are made based on individuals skills, qualifications and experience rather than extraneous factors such as race, sex, marital status etc.
Occupational Health & Safety
Council has an obligation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure the health and safety of all employees and visitors to Council.
The safety objective of Council is to provide a safe environment for employees and visitors and to encourage everyone to regard accident prevention as a collective and individual responsibility.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council through all its management levels, institutes, maintains and extensively encourages safe working systems throughout its operations.
Staff Development
In addition to "on the job" training given by Supervisors, Goulburn Mulwaree Council conducts various training programmes. These programmes are designed to increase efficiency/skill levels which in turn improves opportunities for promotion. Employees are encouraged to pursue studies through external sources, these may include TAFE and Universities.
