STARTS - Southern Tablelands Arts Program
Goulburn is a member of the Southern Tablelands Arts Program.
STARTS was established in 1996 to provide support to the community and Local Government for the development of cultural and arts-based initiatives at both regional and local level.
The Program receives funding and support from the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts and from the eleven participating Local Government areas of Goulburn, Boorowa, Crookwell, Gunning, Mulwaree, Queanbeyan, Tallaganda, Wingecarribee, Wollondilly, Yarrowlumla and Yass.
The Regional Arts Program is coordinated by a community-based Board of Management with representation from all parts of the region and benefits from administrative support provided by the Arts Council of New South Wales.
Through a Regional Arts Development Officer, based in Goulburn at Goulburn City Council's McDermott Centre in Auburn St, the Program currently provides:
- Advice and active assistance to community groups and individuals seeking funding or support for their activities
- Seed funding and guarantees against loss to community groups and regional projects
- Project funding through Arts Council of NSW, Artstart Youth Arts and Skills, Country Arts Support Program, Youth Week, NSW Ministry for the Arts Regional Arts Fund
- Cultural Development workshops and assistance in the development of Local Government cultural planning
- Support for professional touring theatre performances, exhibitions and other regional initiatives
- Promotion of activities and new opportunities for the region, The Arts Page monthly newsletter also published in the Goulburn Post
- Assistance in the development of infrastructure developments such as new, or improved, community centers, performance spaces, galleries
- An annual Southern Tablelands Arts Funding Handbook
